VNUS Closure in Atlanta, GA

Vein & Skin Laser Center uses VNUS Closure™ to treat varicose veins for the residents of Atlanta, Sandy Springs and the surrounding communities in Georgia.

The patented technology of the Closure System was created over a four-year period to treat superficial venous reflux. This technology uses a very small catheter, and radiofrequency energy to seal shut the saphenous vein. The first incision is made near the knee, and a slender catheter is inserted into the saphenous vein. The catheter is then inserted close to the groin area and is energized and slowly removed. As the catheter is retracted, it seals the vein closed. Patients can return to normal activities in a day or two and no stitches are required.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is VNUS Closure™ / VeneFit™ Procedure?

VNUS Closure™, or the new name VeneFit™, is the same procedure with the same proven results. The VeneFit™ procedure uses radiofrequency energy to precisely and effectively treat patients suffering from Varicose Veins or Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI). With this procedure, patients report less pain and bruising than with alternative treatments.

How does VNUS Closure™ Work?

This technology uses a very small catheter, and radiofrequency energy to seal shut the saphenous vein. The first incision is made near the knee, and a slender catheter is inserted into the saphenous vein. The catheter is then inserted close to the groin area and is energized and slowly removed. As the catheter is retracted, it seals the vein closed.

Is VNUS Closure™ Safe?

The Closure procedure has been the subject of numerous studies and journal articles. The results from a peer-reviewed, multi-center, randomized trial comparing recovery rates and quality of life between patients treated with conventional vein stripping and the Closure procedure (radiofrequency vein ablation) were published in the Journal of Vascular Surgery.

Will there be downtime?

Patients who receive the Closure procedure have experienced less post-operative pain, and returned to normal activities and work faster than patients whose veins were surgically stripped. Also, it has been reported that between 12 and 24 months following the Closure procedure, 90% or more of treated veins remained reflux-free, and patients notice a significant reduction of pain, fatigue and edema.

How long does the procedure take?

The VeneFit™ procedure, or VNUS Closure™, can take anywhere between 45-60 minutes. However, patients may spend 2-3 hours total at the facility due to normal pre- and post-treatment procedures.

Is the procedure painful?

Patients report little pain, if any, during the VeneFit™ procedure. The procedure can be done under a local anesthetic right in the office.

How quickly after treatment can I return to normal activities?

Patients experience a quick return to their normal activities. A walking regimen is suggested for a few weeks following the treatment; however patients are asked to refrain from prolonged standing, exercising, heavy lifting or jogging.

Is there any scarring, bruising, swelling, or potential health risk, after the VeneFit™ procedure?

Patients report minimal to no bruising, swelling, or scarring after the VeneFit™ procedure. As with any medical treatment, potential risks and complications may exist with the VeneFit™ procedure. Patients should consult with the specialists at Vein & Skin Laser Center to determine if their conditions present any special risks. The doctors can discuss any potential complications that may occur.

While cosmetic improvement is often a factor in using VNUS Closure™ / VeneFit™ Procedure to treat varicose veins, Vein & Skin Laser Center understands that relief from pain is often the primary concern for patients in Atlanta, Sandy Springs and the surrounding communities in Georgia.

Our physicians use advanced diagnostic techniques to choose the best non-surgical or minimally invasive procedure for the treatment of varicose veins and other venous disorders to ensure that both aesthetic concerns and painful symptoms are addressed simultaneously, effectively and safely.
