Hand Treatments in Atlanta & Decatur, GA

Treatments: Bulging Veins, Emaciated Hands, Age Spots

You’ve heard the saying: you can always tell a woman’s true age not by looking at her face, but at her hands. Removing unsightly, bulging hand veins and age spots benefits those wishing to regain that soft, youthful appearance. It restores confidence in women who have developed unattractive veins and spots on their hands and have become self-conscious. As aging occurs, sun damage and loss of collagen combine to cause veins and age spots to stand out. You can have youthful looking hands again! Hand veins can be closed and hyperpigmentation (age spots) can be erased with photorejuvenation. A plump youthful look can be restored for your hands with Radiesse injections.

Frequently Asked Questions

What causes unsightly hand veins?

In most cases, unsightly hand veins are healthy and not diseased. The most typical cause of unwanted hand veins is the thinning of skin and subcutaneous tissue that comes with age. Without that youthful cushioning, the veins begin to appear more obvious and bulge.

Can I get that "youthful cushioning" back? Maybe then my veins won’t show so much?

Yes. A plump, youthful look can be restored with a simple injection of Radiesse dermal filler combined with a local anesthetic. The procedure has minimal if any discomfort and gives immediate results. You may feel your veins are not as prominent after the Radiesse treatment.

Is this a permanent solution?

The plumping results of Radiesse will last for at least a year.

Is it safe to close my hand veins; don’t I need them?

There are many more blood vessels in the deeper layers of the hand that provide adequate blood flow. The bulging veins are superficial and not required for normal circulation. Generally one of the upper arm veins will be saved for blood testing or possible intravenous use for medications.

Does insurance cover the cost of the procedure?

Because the removal of hand veins is considered a cosmetic procedure, it is not normally covered by insurance companies.

What are the side effects and/or risks of treating my hand veins?

Generally the discomfort associated with the procedure is minimal. There might be slight bruising, swelling and/or pain that is usually resolved quickly.

How long does the hand vein treatment last?

The results from the treatment are permanent. Unlike varicose veins in the leg, unwanted hand veins are not abnormal veins; thus the likelihood of new veins developing in your hands is very low.

How can I get rid of these “age spots”?

Hyperpigmentation (age spots) of the hands can be eliminated through photorejuvenation. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology is a treatment breakthrough that can correct a variety of benign skin conditions, such as birthmarks, age spots, and other blemishes.

How is photorejuvenation performed?

A cold gel is usually applied to the area to be treated and you may be given dark glasses to protect our eyes from the bright light. The smooth glass surface of the IPL handpiece is gently applied to your skin and pulses of light are applied. The light is targeted by filters to heat the pigment in the age spot so it will break up. In a few days the brown spots will break up and simply flake off the skin.

How do I decide which treatment I need for my hands: vein removal, dermal filler or photorejuvenation?

An initial office visit will allow Dr. Fern to evaluate your hands. At this complimentary consultation a treatment plan will be outlined so that you and the doctor can choose the procedure that is best for you.
