EVLT in Atlanta, GA

Vein & Skin Laser Center performs VenaCure EVLT™ for the residents of Atlanta, Sandy Springs and the surrounding communities in Georgia. VenaCure EVLT™ treatment eliminates unsightly and uncomfortable varicose veins.

The procedure is minimally invasive and can be done in about one hour with no need to stay in a hospital. The VenaCure EVLT™ treatment is a fast, safe, and effective way to target and seal varicose veins to help you look and feel better.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What is VenaCure EVLT™?

EVLT™, or Endovenous Laser Treatment, uses laser energy to treat varicose veins.  This laser is simply a highly concentrated beam of light. These medical lasers deliver this light energy to the targeted are with exact precision, so none of the surrounding tissue is affected. In EVLT™, a thin fiber is inserted into the damaged vein through a very small entry point in the skin. Laser light is dispersed through the fiber, as the fiber is pulled back through the vein; it delivers only the appropriate amount of energy necessary. The veins close and seal shut when they react to the light energy that has targeted the tissue. The veins that are closed are superficial veins that handle less than five percent of the body’s blood flow. The blood is automatically routed to healthy veins.

Will there be any downtime?

There is little or no pain associated with EVLT™ and patients can return to normal activities immediately.

How does the treatment work?

The doctors at Vein & Skin Laser Center will use ultrasound to map out your  vein. You will only need a local anesthetic. A thin laser fiber is inserted through a tiny entry point, usually near the knee. The Laser energy is administered to seal the affected vein.

Is EVLT™ safe?

The VenaCure EVLT™ procedure can potentially result in some slight bruising, which commonly disappears within the first few weeks. Patients may feel delayed tightness, similar to a pulling feeling that may occur 4-7 days after laser treatment. This is normal and expected following a successful EVLT™ treatment.

What are the benefits of EVLT™ over other treatments?

The treatment, which is performed with a local anesthetic, usually takes between 30-45 minutes. The patient can walk out the same day. The leg is either bandaged or placed in a stocking that the patient should wear for one week  afterwards. The treatment is quick, effective, and virtually pain-free.

How does the treatment feel?

There is minimal pain associated with this procedure. There may be slight bruising, soreness or redness. Any discomfort can be treated with over-the-counter, non-aspirin pain relievers as necessary.

Instructions for before treatment:

Patients are instructed to stop using certain medications, including birth control and other blood thinners, approximately four weeks prior to treatment.  Patients should not apply moisturizers, lotions, sunscreen, or oil to their legs on the day of treatment.

Instructions for after treatment:

Walking immediately after the procedure is encouraged. Patients can return to their normal daily activity; however it is suggested to avoid rigorous activities such as gym workouts.

While cosmetic improvement is often a factor in seeking VenaCure EVLT™ treatment, Vein & Skin Laser Center understands that relief from pain is often the primary concern for patients in Atlanta, Sandy Springs and the surrounding communities in Georgia.

Our physicians use advanced diagnostic techniques to choose the best non-surgical or minimally invasive procedure for the treatment of varicose veins and other venous disorders to ensure that both aesthetic concerns and painful symptoms are addressed simultaneously, effectively and safely.
