Dark Spots on Hands and Face
Want younger looking hands? Wish you didn’t have those dark spots on your face? We all know we should wear sunscreen (or should have worn!) to prevent damage from the sun, but what do you now that you are looking at sun damage on your face and hands that was NOT prevented? Don’t give up! At Vein and Skin Laser Center we offer treatment for pigmented areas of the hands and arms face and legs.
Dark pigmented spots appear on the skin because of exposure to the sun. Sometimes people refer to these as moles or “liver spots” and usually they are common to older patients. But we are also seeing pigmented skin in younger patients who are prone to develop sun damaged skin. Of course sunscreen is the preventative answer but after the sun spots appear, there are ways to treat these unattractive skin blemishes.
Intense pulsed light is a more modern way to treat the pigmented skin lesions. The specialized light wave is attracted to dark pigment in the skin and targets these pigmented lesions by delivering heat energy and causing fragmentation of the pigmented lesion. The fragmented pigmented particles then slowly and gently peel away from the skin over a period of one week.
We have found dramatic results in treating hand age spots. Combining this treatment with eliminating enlarged hand veins gives you back your beautiful hands. These age spots are particularly unbecoming to most women and can be removed very easily as a lunchtime treatment with minimal reddening of the skin after treatment. Generally patients return to work right away and use skin moisturizers post-treatment.
Taking advantage of recent innovations in skin therapy is a smart move. You will be surprised and pleased with the results.
