Why You Should Choose Thermal Ablation

At Vein and Skin, we pride ourselves on the quality care we provide our patients in restoring painful, unsightly legs and thighs to their youthful vibrancy. The most common solution for treating large varicose veins is endovenous thermal ablation. Traditional techniques of vein removal, like vein stripping and ligation, had high failure rates and a higher risk of recurrence. When the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved thermal ablation 12 years ago, the procedure quickly became an industry standard.

Physicians recommend the procedure because:

  • It does not require general anesthesia.
  • It is much faster than previous methods, lasting only an hour.
  • It requires little recovery time and allows you to move about your day immediately.
  • It does not remove veins, so there is less pain, less bleeding, and less bruising.

Thermal ablation uses either lasers or high-frequency radio waves to create intense heat in the disruptive vein. Delivered to the problem vein through a catheter, the heat energy that enters the vein hits either the vein wall or collagen within the wall. The vein responds to the heat by closing or collapsing. Once closed, the diverted blood flow returns to where it no longer flows backward.

Vein treatment may require a combination of different treatments, but is ultimately marked as a success when:

  1. Blood leakage is completely stopped.
  2. Direction of the blood flow is not backward.
  3. Smaller veins are removed or closed.

Vein and Skin uses the VeneFit and VeneCure EVLT thermal ablation procedures to help you rid of varicose veins. Don’t throw your money and health into just anyone’s hands. To make an appointment a highly specialized and experienced physician, do not hesitate to call our clinic at (404) 508-4320. We can help you decide which method of vein removal is best for you and suggest any additional options we can explore.
