Age Spot Treatment in Atlanta, GA

Vein & Skin Laser Center performs age spot treatments for the residents of Atlanta, Sandy Springs and the surrounding communities in Georgia.

Age spots are commonly mistaken for mini-suntans spattered over your face, hands, chest, arms, neck, or back. Age spots are the negative result of excessive sun exposure and have nothing to do with age. Age spots are spots of pigment that appear when there is an increase in melanocytes, or melanin. Melanin is a natural color pigment in a person’s skin that will darken when introduced to ultraviolet rays from the sun.

What causes Age Spots?

Age spots, also known as lentigines, are the brownish spots that form on your face and body. Age spots are caused by an overexposure to the sun, and not due to age as the name would imply. These spots or blemishes occur as your body tries to ward off the sun’s UV rays that can damage your skin. While the melanin pigment within your skin is responsible for absorbing sunlight, repeated exposure to UV rays over time damages your skin and lowers your ability to produce melanin pigment. Genetics also play a part in whether or not you will develop these skin blemishes, in addition to how many will appear. Some people are genetically inclined to develop age spots, while others are not. If you have inherited fair skin, you are more prone to age spots than people with darker skin. People with darker skin produce more melanin, which protects the skin, unlike those with lighter or fair skin.

How can I get rid of Age Spots

CUTERA’s broad menu of intense pulsed light options provide a full range of treatments for the signs of aging.  In addition to hair removal, xeo+IPL can diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, dyschromia and provide deep dermal heating.

Our physicians use advanced diagnostic techniques to choose the best non-surgical or minimally invasive procedure for age spot treatment to ensure that both aesthetic concerns  are addressed simultaneously, effectively, and safely.
